Eliza + Brett are two of the kindest people you will ever meet. Their hearts are so big not only for each other, but for every single person that came to celebrate their marriage.
They chose to get married on September 12th at Downpatrick Farm because of Eliza’s father’s parents, who moved to Downpatrick Farm in the 1950s and raised their eight children there, were married on September 12th 1947. Their youngest child, Eliza’s uncle, lives on the farm with his wife and manages it full-time. He and his wife were married on the farm on September 12th 2009. So the tradition continues!
Talk about an unbelievable amount of food that electrified the palate of this pregnant photographer (along with all the guests)! Brett is an organic vegetable farmer so it was important to them that the food supported local farms. The caterer, Scarlet Runner Catering and both bakers source their ingredients as locally as possible and did a fabulous job!
One of my favorite personal touches was Eliza’s cousin, Amelia Knipmeyer, made the men’s ties (and boy’s bowties) herself. She designed the fabric with her own drawings of peppers that Brett grows on his farm and handmade each tie and bowtie with the fabric. So cool right?! When it came to Eliza’s precious custom dress, the lace trim around the neckline, sleeves, and bottom is from a veil that was worn by Eliza’s mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother!!
I could go on and on with the personal and meaningful touches that Brett and Eliza put into their wedding day. Everything was perfect! Even when it came to a down-pour right before the ceremony. They decided to delay the ceremony a bit, and before you knew it, the clouds lessened and the rain stopped. Eliza teared up as she watched from a distance all her guests take towels and wipe down the chairs, so she could have her dream outdoor ceremony. This was also the reason behind so many bare feet in the pictures. The wedding party was going to be barefoot all along regardless of the weather, but all the guests (and vendors!) going barefoot totally added to the natural feel of the day.
What a sweet day all around! Loads of love and thanks for letting us celebrate your special day, xo!
